Operate Mobile Cranes Safely & Confidently
A mobile crane is one of the highest-risk machines on any site β minor errors cause major incidents. NIST Global's Mobile Crane Operation Training gives operators the inspection, set-up, load-chart and signalling skills to lift safely and efficiently, in full compliance with Indian and international standards. Delivered on-site or virtually across India.

The Challenge
Why Mobile Crane Operation Is So High-Risk
Crane operation is more than driving a machine β it demands understanding limits, reading load charts and maintaining stability. Even minor errors can lead to severe, sometimes fatal, accidents.
Overload & tip-over
Misreading the load chart or over-reaching the radius pushes a crane past its limit and over.
Unstable set-up
Soft ground, poor outrigger deployment or uneven setup undermine stability before the lift even starts.
Compliance gaps
Statutory and site-specific HSE standards require competent, assessed operators β gaps mean penalties.
Costly failures
Crane incidents bring fatalities, equipment loss, downtime, claims and major project delays.
Build Operators Who Lift Safely & Precisely
The Mobile Crane Operation course gives crane operators the essential knowledge and practical skills to perform lifting operations safely and efficiently. Crane operator safety involves more than operating machinery β it means understanding equipment limitations, reading load charts, conducting pre-use inspections, maintaining stability and coordinating with riggers and signalmen.
The course covers a comprehensive range of topics β crane types and components, pre-operational checklists, load handling principles, signalling methods, hazard identification and emergency response β through a mix of theory and practical demonstrations.
Participants gain confidence in managing lifting activities across construction sites, manufacturing units, ports and industrial plants, helping reduce accidents, protect personnel and property, and ensure statutory compliance.
Get a Customised Programme βThe 5 Steps of a Safe Crane Lift
Every safe lift follows the same disciplined cycle. NIST Global's training builds operator competence at each step β from first inspection to securing the crane.
Every shift starts with a thorough pre-operational inspection. The operator confirms the crane, ropes, hooks, controls and safety devices are sound and within certification before any load is considered.
- Wire rope, hook and latch condition
- Controls, brakes and load-moment indicator
- Fluid levels, tyres and structure
- Defects reported and crane tagged out if unsafe
Stability is everything. The operator positions the crane on firm ground, deploys outriggers on proper mats, and levels the machine β the foundation that keeps the lift safe.
- Firm, assessed ground bearing
- Outriggers fully extended on mats/pads
- Crane levelled correctly
- Clearance from excavations and overhead lines
Before lifting, the operator confirms the load weight and uses the load chart to verify capacity at the planned radius and boom length. Capacity drops sharply as radius grows β this step prevents overload.
- Confirmed load weight and centre of gravity
- Capacity verified on the load chart at radius
- Boom length and configuration confirmed
- De-rating for outrigger and slew position
The lift is executed smoothly and under control, coordinated with the rigger and signalman through standard signals. The operator keeps the load stable, controlled and clear of people throughout.
- Standard hand/radio signals with the signaller
- Smooth, controlled hoist and slew
- No side-loading or sudden movements
- Load kept clear of people and obstructions
After the lift, the operator lands the load safely, returns the crane to its safe rest configuration, secures it against movement, and reports any defects or incidents for follow-up.
- Load landed and de-rigged safely
- Boom lowered and crane secured
- Controls off, crane left in safe state
- Defects and incidents reported
