Confined Space Entry

It is critically important that the people involved in making confined space entries are qualified and experienced and therefore trained in the associated hazards, which unfortunately in many circumstances is not the case. Also, when seeing a colleague collapsed within an enclosed space it is a natural impulsive reaction to rush in and assist. Unfortunately this is one of the main causes of fatalities as over 50% of the workers who die in confined spaces are attempting to rescue other workers who have found themselves in difficulty.

Introduction:

It is critically important that the people involved in making confined space entries are qualified and experienced and therefore trained in the associated hazards, which unfortunately in many circumstances is not the case. Also, when seeing a colleague collapsed within an enclosed space it is a natural impulsive reaction to rush in and assist. Unfortunately this is one of the main causes of fatalities as over 50% of the workers who die in confined spaces are attempting to rescue other workers who have found themselves in difficulty.

NIST has delivered CSE training to offshore, marine, metro rail, steel, cement and telecom industries. We have also ensured Risk Management for maintenance and repairs in enclosed space for clients like Honeywell, Bangalore Metro.

Learning Outcomes of Confined Space Entry training

By the end of the course an employee would be aware of the following:

  • Enclosed Space Entry Procedures.
  • Types and importance of ventilation.
  • Atmosphere testing and monitoring.
  • Space preparation for entry.
  • Rescue arrangements and resuscitation equipment at the entrance.
  • Supervisory control and experienced person in attendance at the entrance.
  • Communication arrangements between the supervisor and entrants.
  • Safe access and illumination.
  • Personal protective equipments.
  • Breathing apparatus.
  • Permit to Work.
  • Training requirements for Confined Space Entry.
  • Emergency Drills.
  • Actions by Emergency Rescue Team in the event of an emergency.

The training sessions would be as per industrial guidelines and best practices.

Who can take the Confined Space Entry training?

Every worker that enters a confined space must have hands-on training as an essential part of CSE training. Supervisor and all workers with emergency rescue responsibilities will need additional specialized training.

Benefits of Confined Space Entry training

Most important is training ensures legal compliance when work involves confines space entry. All confined space training includes some hands-on training with the safety equipment including protective equipment, safety harnesses and therefore builds up competence. Training provides an opportunity to refresh rescue procedures that should be practiced frequently so there is a high level of proficiency. Organization should maintain records of all such confined space training including refresher courses.
