NIST talks on Process Safety Management at FICCI Conference, Guwahati

The two day Regional Conference on Safety Management in Industries, Hazardous Waste Management, Storage & Transportation of Chemicals, Petroleum, Petroleum Products and Capacity Building of North Eastern States towards Emergency Response held at Guwahati in October (8-9) 2018, aimed at bringing together the best minds in health and safety area under one roof. This conference was organized by FICCI in association with Govt. of Assam, NDMA, and Director General Factory Advice Service & Labour Institutes. Topics in the limelight of discussion and deliberation were Business Continuity Planning, Process Safety Management, Occupational Health & Industrial Hygiene, Solution for Effluents, and Impact of Earthquake on Industries. Attendees at the conference were pre-eminent personalities such as HSE Safety Management, HSE Technocrats, Design/Engineer Team Members, Workshop Supervisors, and Risk Assessors/Safety & Security Auditors of various industries. This conglomerate in fact created an interactive platform for the companies and organizations to network and showcase their services and tap into new business opportunities.

NIST being India’s premium safety training institute was an attendee at the conference represented by Associate Consultant Mr. Raman Swaminathan. In fact, it was first of its kind event for us and had the privilege of addressing doyens of industries from various fields like Oil & Gas, Mining, Industries Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals and many more. The intention was towards making community and industry safe and prepare onsite emergency management plans to reduce response time by improving efficiency. The moment was historic as our delegate highlighted the deliberation of occupational health and safety. Again, it was our quest to emphasize on PSM (Process Safety Management) and unravel its potential to reshape workplace. Thus, he shared valuable information on Process Hazard Analysis, Safety Integrity Limit, Quantitative Risk Analysis, Process Safety Audits and their benefits among others. In addition, he emphasized on topics like Material Handling, Electrical Safety, Height Work Permit, and Usage of PPE. The session on process safety management drew divergent responses and we shared a clear vision to commission safety in every aspects for which a lot of ground works to be done.

Again, our delegate focused on the need of auditing and consulting services with legal views. Speaking at the event, he said, “One of the biggest challenges, that was addressed was how to reduce workplace incidents. In order for organizations to reduce workplace accident and injury, they have to equip with and create a safer work environment”. Further, he added that, “how NIST has been instrumental in reshaping the safety aspects to various industries and the way it creates talent through international courses like HSW, IOSH Managing Safely”. Delegates present at the conference agreed to the fact of integrating safety in the alms of the legislation and shared a common vision with respect to the need of health and safety at workplace. Overall, it was an excellent platform for meeting health and safety buyers who are willing to join us and they expressed kin to source our products in due course of time.
