NIST - India's First NEBOSH Gold Learning Partner

NIST partook in a technical seminar organized by Indian Copper Development Centre

India’s most preferred Health & Safety Training, Consulting & Auditing Company & First NEBOSH Gold Learning Partner – NIST, had an opportunity to partake in a seminar “Pollution Control and Safety Measures in Copper & Copper Alloy Industry”, which was organized by the Indian Copper Development Centre, for the benefit of the Indian copper & copper alloy product manufacturing industries.

Objective of the Seminar

The event was organized on 20th September 2019 at Hotel Radisson – Mumbai, where eminent senior-most executives, top industry leaders, and technocrats from primary copper producers and downstream product manufacturers from all over the country had participated. The main objective of the seminar is to highlight the control measures to restrain environmental degradation, besides to reduce the effects of environmental pollutants and intermediate products on the environment.

Esteemed Dignitaries in the Dais

The event started off with a welcome note by Mr. Rikhab Mehta, Managing Director – Mehta Group of Industries & Member, Board of Management of Indian Copper Development Centre. Dr. Sengupta – Former Member Secretary, Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environmental and Forest, took forward the event by addressing and highlighting the pollution control measures required in copper and copper alloy industries. The inaugural address was done by Mr. Santosh Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director, Hindustan Copper Ltd, emphasized the importance of air and water pollution control, corresponding to the up scaling copper demand. Further, narrated some environmental and energy saving measures implemented in his organization along with some of his futuristic plans.

Technical Presentation by Mr. Robert Chettiar – Deputy General Manager of NIST

In the plenary session, Mr. Robert Chettiar – Deputy General Manager of NIST’s Corporate Service had a remarkable technical presentation on “Process Hazard Analysis”. He emphasized that Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) is the foundation for the process safety and the risk management program in any process plant. Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) anticipates the hazardous events, develops the policies and procedures to safeguard the equipment, instrument and human action against emergencies. He insisted the concept of PHA & ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) to regulate & maintain the safety management system and enlightened broad spectrum of risk analyzing methodologies like Hazard & Operability (HAZOP) Study, Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA), Event Tree Analysis (ETA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) & Bow – tie diagrams. Further, he significantly portrayed the Hierarchy of Risk control to mitigate & eliminate the hazards.

Thus, his visually appealing presentation inspired the seminar participants, triggered new ideas on process safety, which is greatly appreciated & recognized by the audience. NIST is delighted to be a part of this successful seminar; we are privileged to exhibit our service towards Health and Safety.
