One Programme, Every Truck β Safe Operation of Industrial Trucks Training
Most warehouses run more than just forklifts. NIST Global's Safe Operation of Industrial Trucks Training builds multi-equipment competence across forklifts, reach trucks, pallet trucks, tow tractors and order pickers β so every operator handles every machine safely, efficiently and in full compliance. Delivered on-site or virtually across India.

The Challenge
Why Mixed-Fleet Sites Need Broader Operator Training
A reach truck handles nothing like a counterbalance forklift, and an order picker brings work-at-height risk. Training operators on just one machine leaves dangerous gaps when they move to another.
Different trucks, different risks
Each truck type handles, balances and lifts differently β single-machine training doesn't transfer safely.
Collisions & tip-overs
Blind spots, congestion and unstable loads cause collisions, tip-overs and load spills across every truck type.
Compliance gaps
OSHA and IS codes require operators trained and evaluated for each truck class they use β gaps invite penalties.
Costly downtime
Mishandling means damaged stock, racking and trucks, plus downtime and repair costs that erode productivity.
Build Versatile, Safety-Conscious Multi-Equipment Operators
Safe Operation of Industrial Trucks Training trains operators, supervisors and safety personnel on the safe handling and manoeuvring of a wide range of powered industrial vehicles β forklifts, pallet trucks, reach trucks, tow tractors and order pickers.
The course covers vehicle inspection, load stability, operational controls, hazard identification, speed management and safe navigation in confined or high-traffic areas, with emphasis on workplace-specific protocols, PPE and adherence to OSHA and Indian IS standards.
Unlike forklift-only training, which focuses on counterbalance forklift operations, this programme offers a broader, multi-equipment scope across warehousing, logistics, manufacturing and retail β making operators more versatile and safety-conscious across every vehicle they use.
Get a Customised Programme βThe 5 Powered Industrial Trucks β and Their Specific Risks
Each truck type handles differently and brings its own hazards. NIST Global's training builds equipment-specific competence across the whole fleet.
The most common industrial truck, using a rear counterweight to lift loads on front forks. Its main risk is the tip-over: overloading, raised loads or sharp turns push its centre of gravity outside the stability triangle.
- Tip-overs from overload or fast turns
- Pedestrian collisions and blind spots
- Control: respect the capacity plate
- Control: travel with load low and tilted back
- Control: slow down and stay belted
Built for narrow aisles and high racking, the reach truck extends its forks forward to place loads deep into racks. Working at height in tight aisles makes stability and precision critical.
- Instability at high lift heights
- Narrow-aisle racking and pedestrian conflict
- Control: slow, smooth reach and lift
- Control: check rack and load condition
- Control: respect residual capacity at height
Powered pallet trucks (pallet jacks) move loads at floor level over short distances. Their risks come from speed, momentum and the operator's proximity β crushed feet and trapping injuries are common.
- Foot and ankle crush injuries
- Loss of control on ramps and slopes
- Control: keep feet clear; safe walking position
- Control: control speed, especially on inclines
- Control: never overload the platform
Tow tractors (tuggers) pull trains of trailers for horizontal transport. Risks centre on trailer sway, coupling failures and the long, swinging path of the load through busy areas.
- Trailer sway and jack-knifing
- Coupling and load-securing failures
- Control: secure couplings and loads
- Control: take wide, slow turns
- Control: limit trailer numbers and speed
Order pickers raise the operator with the load to pick stock at height β adding a work-at-height fall risk on top of normal truck hazards. Fall protection and platform discipline are essential.
- Falls from the raised platform
- Tip-over if driven unsafely at height
- Control: wear and clip on a fall-arrest harness
- Control: keep the platform gate closed
- Control: don't travel elevated where prohibited
