Noida Residential Fire Reinforces the Need for Proactive Fire & Life Safety Audits

A tragic fire at a multi-storey residential building in Mamura Village, Sector 66, Noida, has once again underscored the importance of fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and regular fire safety assessments in occupied buildings. The incident resulted in the loss of two lives and required a large-scale rescue operation to evacuate dozens of residents.

What Happened?

The fire occurred on 15 July 2026 in the ground floor car park of a 4-storey residential development where approximately 50 households lived. Initial investigation information released by officials indicates that the fire started when an electric vehicle was charging.

The blaze then easily engulfed adjacent parked cars, creating a heavy smoke which spread through the stairwells and upper floors, leading to the evacuation of the occupants.

Firefighters used several fire tenders, hydraulic platforms and rescue vehicles to evacuate residents and put out the fire. Unfortunately two people died from smoke inhalation. A case has been registered and the investigation is ongoing to find out the exact cause of the incident.

Lessons Every Building Owner Should Learn

While the investigation is still under way, the incident did raise a number of important fire safety issues which apply to both residential and commercial buildings.

  • Electrical systems and EV charging areas to be designed and maintained in appropriate safety.
  • Fire detection and alarm systems should be regularly tested for early warning.
  • Stairways, emergency exits and escape routes should never have anything in their way.
  • The occupants should know how to evacuate the building and conduct regular fire drills.
  • Fire & Life Safety Audits need to be conducted regularly on buildings to determine hazards and increase preparedness for emergencies.

In a fire emergency, things can happen very quickly—especially if smoke travels along common escape routes. Preventive or proactive planning and measures are the most effective in minimizing the effect of these incidents.

Why Fire & Life Safety Audits Matter

Fire safety is not limited to installing extinguishers or complying with regulations. It calls for a systematic assessment of the buildings fire protection system, its electrical system, evacuation plans, emergency response plans and other life safety measures.

A Fire & Life Safety (FLS) Audit can benefit a property owner and/or facility manager by:

  • Learn to proactively identify potential fire hazards and make them non-incidents.
  • Assess adherence to relevant fire safety regulations and standards.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of fire detection, suppression and emergency systems.
  • Make practical suggestions and risk reduction measures to increase occupant safety.

Regular audits are essential for enhancing fire resilience, whether in a residential complex, office building, educational facility, hospital, hotel, shopping centre or industrial building.
