Telangana Assembly CPR Response: A Reminder on First Aid and Emergency Preparedness

A medical emergency at the Telangana Legislative Assembly on September 8, 2026, highlighted the importance of immediate action when someone suddenly collapses.

According to reports, the personal secretary to a senior IAS officer suddenly collapsed at the Assembly premises. But the intervention of a Cabinet Minister of the Telangana government, who stepped in to help, and did CPR until medical assistance was arranged. First aid was administered and the person was transported to the hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need to have individuals in place who can respond to a medical emergency appropriately in the first few moments.

Why First Aid and CPR Readiness Matters

Medical emergencies are possible anywhere, anytime. In the workplace, school, office, the public sector, and even at home. In a medical emergency, the first few minutes is a critical period.

It is important that you recognise the situation and call for professional assistance, do first aid or CPR if necessary, until help arrives, during this time. In that situation it is important that the members of an organization are informed and trained on emergency procedures.

The Importance of Immediate Response

The response seen during the Telangana Assembly incident is a positive reminder of what preparedness can look like in a real emergency — someone stepping forward, taking action and providing assistance while professional medical support is being arranged.

Effective emergency preparedness involves more than having a first-aid box available. Organisations should consider:

  • Training employees in basic first aid and CPR
  • Ensuring emergency contact procedures are clearly communicated
  • Making first-aid equipment readily accessible
  • Identifying trained first-aid responders
  • Conducting regular emergency response awareness sessions
  • Ensuring employees know how and when to seek professional medical assistance
  • Periodically reviewing workplace emergency response procedures

First Aid Training in the Workplace

First aid training can help employees to gain knowledge and confidence in responding appropriately to a medical emergency.

CPR training courses provide awareness of actions to take when a person is unresponsive and not breathing normally, and reinforce the importance of calling for emergency medical assistance and acting in accordance with specific emergency management procedures.

Training should be relevant, practical and delivered in a way that encourages confident response in the event of an emergency.

Building a More Prepared Workforce

Every organisation has a responsibility to consider how it would respond if an employee, visitor or contractor experienced a medical emergency on its premises.

Being prepared means knowing what to do before an emergency happens.

At NIST Global, we provide First Aid and CPR training to help organisations strengthen their emergency preparedness and equip employees with practical knowledge and essential response skills.

A workplace that is prepared to respond is better positioned to provide immediate assistance while professional medical help is on the way.
