Batasingaram, Telangana: A major accident was narrowly avoided at a petrol station in Batasingaram on September 10 after a TGSRTC bus crashed into two cars and then hit the fuel dispensing area.
The incident took place at around 10:45 a.m. when the bus was travelling from Dilsukhnagar towards Choutuppal. According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, the bus entered the Bharat Petroleum fuel station after colliding with two cars.
The crash caused damage to the petrol station’s fuel dispensing equipment and other infrastructure. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
What Happened at the Petrol Station?
The event was recorded through the CCTV camera at the fuel station.
As per the report, the bus driver’s sight was hampered due to the truck which had been parked in such a manner that it obstructed his vision. Meanwhile, a car was turning around in a U-turn position. The moment the car appeared in front of the driver, the bus allegedly maneuvered itself to avoid a collision with the car.
This sudden maneuver led to the bus colliding with the fuel station, where it hit two cars before crashing into the fuel dispensing machinery.
This collision caused damage to the oil displaying machine, fuel dispensing gun, one pillar, and electric power lines, as per the report of the fuel pump manager, Bairu Sandeep.

Why This Incident Deserves Attention
The event demonstrates the rapidity with which a simple road condition may become hazardous.
While poor visibility, unpredictable actions of a vehicle and an urgent maneuver for preventing collision may look like separate minor problems, their simultaneous appearance results in even more severe consequences. In the described incident, the bus was inside a petrol station, thus becoming exposed to additional risks connected with the fuel dispensers being there.
What is especially significant about this event is that nobody was hurt. Such an outcome is stupendous because some slight changes in conditions could lead to very different outcomes.
A Reminder for Fleet and Driver Safety
For companies running buses, trucks, and other commercial vehicles, events such as these emphasise the need to practice defensive driving on a day-to-day basis.
Having a clear vision of the surrounding environment, anticipating movements of other vehicles, maintaining control over speed, and making good decisions in case of unforeseen events are some of the important elements of defensive driving.
The organisation may provide training to their drivers, especially those who drive on busy roads for many hours and drive larger vehicles with passengers. However, safety goes beyond training. Analysis of an incident or close calls can also help in understanding what went wrong and what can be done to avoid a similar situation in the future.
Learning Before the Next Incident
All safety-related incidents do not lead to injuries. Some safety incidents end up without any loss of lives but leave some important learning experiences.
The Batasingaram accident is one of them. By carefully looking into the details of this accident, from the level of visibility to the position of the vehicles and the actions taken by the drivers, preventive action areas could be identified.
For safety officers and fleet managers, such an incident provides an avenue to review their current driving procedures, check for gaps and take necessary preventive actions. The accident is under investigation by the police at the moment. The level of damage caused to the petrol station and other vehicles is yet to be determined.
